About Dr. Whelan

Michael Whelan received a B.S. in Chemistry from Santa Clara University. He attended dental school at the University of California, Los Angeles, and received his dental degree in 1988. He received a medical degree from St. Louis University in 1992, and completed residency training in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 1995. This was followed by a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University and a fellowship in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at the University of Washington.

After completing his training in 1999, he joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington as Assistant Professor of Surgery, practicing at Children's Hospital and Harborview Medical Center, until entering private practice.

Dr. Whelan maintains board certification in both oral surgery and plastic surgery, and is active in numerous professional societies including local and national branches of the American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Dental Association, American Medical Association, the Cleft Palate Craniofacial Society, and the Washington State Dental Association. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington.

He and his wife, Juliana, make their home in Shoreline with their two-year-old daughter, Grace.
